-Country Strong-

I was browsing someones blog and noticed they had a play list and I thought oh I definitely need one of those! I've always said that if I could choose one talent I'd like to have it would be- singing. Lord knows I can't, but I try. I LOVE country music, my boyfriend hates it. There are not many artist in country music that I don't like. I think my first concert was Alan Jackson in Jacksonville, Fl. I remember him singing the Mercury song... "I'm gonna buy me a mercury and cruise it up and down the road."
In the small town that I come from, most everyone listens to country music.. And a lot of people (even my boyfriend) have country favorites that they like to hear every now and again. I remember my mom and two aunts going to a concert in Jacksonville.. I mean an AMAZING concert; Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson all of the great men of country music. My mom said I was "too young," which I was.. but I wanted to go so bad. They just don't do concerts like that anymore. If they did, you better believe I would have a ticket!

My senior year of high school I saw George Strait, & Miranda Lambert... My mom was always a fan of George and I liked him but at the time he was kind of "old" and I was more into Kenny Chesney, or Keith Urban. Boy did my mind change after that concert. He stood up there on stage, wearing his wranglers, big belt buckle- a man of that age never looked so good.  There was no act in his performance.. it was all real.. Just like in the movie Pure Country (a favorite of my mom and I). I now have pretty much every George Strait song written on my ipod. Miranda Lambert... bless her heart- is my hero. I listen to her songs, jammin' out and my boyfriend asks if he should be scared.. haha.. yes, you should. He says that Miranda is a bad influence on me. I beg to differ. If you haven't gotten her newest CD, do it. The thing I love about her is that every song on her cd is great, every single one. I've only seen her in concert once, but am dying to see her agian. & of course I love Blake Shelton!

Another one of my favorite artist is Brantley Gilbert. He's not very big, yet.  Jason Aldean just recorded his song, "My Kinda Party." At first I wasn't too happy that Brantley sold his song out like that, but I think Jason Aldean did it well. One of my first times seeing Brantley was at Jack Rabbits in Jacksonville, I went with Amanda Guinn and Kristen Mizell- it was a great concert. The next time we met was in Athens, Georgia with Brittany Dixon.. she wasn't a big fan of country music but went with me anyway- another great concert. I saw him 2 more times in Athens when I lived there. One of the concerts was at a place called Tucker Plantation just outside of Athens, it included Colt Ford, Brantley Gilbert, and Luke Bryan. This was the type of concert were you could bring your lawn chairs and coolers and just partied all night- easily one of the best concerts I ever went to. A few of my favorite Brantley Gilbert songs are "My Kinda Crazy," "Them boys" because it reminds me of highschool and my favorite song of all "Rock this Town" because he's singing about me :) Why you my ask? Let me share some of the lyrics with you

"It’s 10:00, get ready to rock, let’s roll
Give me the beat boys, and free my soul
Play it all from skynyrd to Jones
And some of my own
5’10 with a suntan and southern drawl
In the front row singing along
Yea it’s all about the country sound
Yeah, we’re gonna rock this town

Sweet home to brown eyed girl
Trying my best to remember the words
And there’s always some drunk in the back
Screaming out Free Bird
Take a break, and head to the bar
Shake a couple hands, got me feeling like a star"

I mean if thats not saying Mallory Glisson, I don't know what is.

this was Brantley Gilbert at the Tucker Plantaiton
All of the girls at the concert.

Brittany and I at a concert in 2007. (she couldn't even drive yet! and yes we were in a bar)

Did I mention I love Luke Bryan? I've seen him in concert about 4 times and each and EVERY concert was amazing. I don't like going to concerts and not knowing all the songs. I mean I understand wanting to get new songs out there but I wanna be able to sing!! Well I sang EVERY song at his concerts. He plays songs like "fishin in the dark," "family tradition," "Sweet Home Alabama" and of course since we ARE from Georgia "Devil went down to Georgia." I was at one of his concerts in Milledgeville, Georgia and I actually got to meet his lead guitarist who is from Albany, Georgia. Luke's song "We Rode In Trucks" always gives me a little tingle inside, mainly because that was what we did-road dirt roads in trucks!!!(sometimes even got stuck!!!)

I'm also a big fan of Eric Church, esp the song "love your love the most." Sara Evans new song "A little bit Stronger," is amazing. Every since the song "Where I'm From," by Jason Michael Carroll came out- I loved it. It gives me chills every single time I hear it.. It IS where I'm from...

"I said im from the front pew of a wooden white church
A courthouse clock that still dont work
Where a mans word means everything
Where moms and dads were high school flames and
Gave their children Grandmothers maiden name
Yes, it may not sound like much
But its where im from"

Since I am so very much into the country music you may ask if I have cowboy boots? Well I have a pair but they aren't comfortable and are ugly. So I'm saving to get a NEW pair.. a BEAUTIFUL new pair :)
Pretty hot huh?

Baby Grant

So this weekend, the boyfriend and I, headed to Raleigh to see the family and meet baby Grant. He was born on January 14th and weighed about 6 lbs and was 20 inches long. Mommy had a baby shower while we were there and got lots of beautiful gifts. Although I do love taking pictures, it was hard for me this weekend. I just wanted to love on him the entire time I was there! Here are a few picture to get you started.. more will be up soon :)

{These are my people, this is where I come from}

As most families in the south, mine are really close. Some people may see this as a bad thing, but I personally love it. We get together for all holidays, birthdays, and sometimes just for Sunday dinner. Even though I live about 8 hours away, I still speak to pretty much everyone- everyday. My grandparents had three daughters, Suzy, Tracey (my mom) & Michelle.. Papa may of wanted a boy and he came pretty close, none of them are girly by any means. They grew up camping, picking tobacco, and you better believe papa taught all of us how to change a tire.
These are the people who started it all.
This is who I came from :)
My mother was the first to have a child (which was me), and then Michelle had Ethan about 6 years later. It was just Ethan and I for a while, we would always go on vacation to the mountains with Nana and Papa for two weeks in the summer. Maybe one day I could post some videos, there are some FUNNY ones. In 1999, Suzy finally had a baby boy named Harrison "Gage" Griffin. She didn't want to know the sex of the baby, which we all thought was plum crazy! But after about 24 hrs of labor, a 10 lb 8 oz baby boy arrived. A year later Ethan got a little sister, McKenzie (she was named after my Nana's dad, Jesse McKenzie Mattox. Mattox is also Ethan's middle name). Everyone was growing up and there were no more "babies" around...but then my mom came home with a little girl, Sydnee Jewel. She was a blessing, mom tried for years and finally was able to have another child. So that was it.. we got Nana Christmas presents with all 5 grand kids names on it and we all thought that five was the final number. We were wrong... Michelle announces that SHE is pregnant. In the words of my Nana, "again?" Nine months later, Cooper Hays Strickland arrived with a head full of jet black hair. Michelle's husband, Chris, is a mechanic and he chose the name (Cooper after Cooper tires and Hayes after the transmission- just kidding, although the idea was still there.) We had a cousin and his last name was Cooper, he passed away a few years before Cooper was born and that's who he was named after.

So then there were six...
(I told everyone to get in "age" order.. And I'm on the other side of Ethan?)
No family can go through life without dealing with tragedies..... the one that was thrown at us was unrecognizable. On January 21, 2010 my aunt Suzy was sent to Heaven. This was not something anyone in our family was prepared to face. We all firmly believe in God and know that she is in a much better place but sometimes its hard to not ask why? I'm very proud of my family for being able to remember all the good times we've shared with her, we talk about her all the time and think about her daily.

“Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.”

In my family, the girls are much more photogenic than the boys.. Here are a few pictures of McKenzie & Sydnee.

Now with the two younger kids, this shoot was far from easy. Sydnee doesn't  understand the concept of looking AT the camera and Cooper can't sit still or get his thumb out of his mouth :)
I love this picture because it really shows their relationship! Sydnee just lets him do whatever to her.. laughing it off and Cooper torturers her!

This is BOYS -vs- GIRLS
Growing up, my grandparents NEVER had pets. They had cats outside that just came into the yard.. but never dogs and never EVER an inside dog. You guessed it, Milton has gotten himself a YORKIE!! Of all dogs, a yapping little yorkie. I never thought I would see the day.
Meet Karley!
Yes, Ethan is my little cousin.. although he now stands 6 foot 4 and weights about 280. I always picked on Ethan.. needless to say- I don't do that anymore. He turned 15 in September, and after 3 tries- he finally got his learners permit. Check out his ride!
GET OFF THE ROADS WHEN YOU SEE THIS COMING!!

The Murray Family

With me not living at home anymore, it's been difficult for me to practice, especially when I don't know many people where I live now. When I planned a trip home to see family, go to the dentist, eye doctor and all that I couldn't help but to ask a great mentor of mine to help me out a little. Christy Spurlock has been such an inspiration to me. I know she has such passion for her work and she has always been more than willing to do anything she can to help me. Christy asked what I was looking for and what I wanted to learn, I had already planned on doing a shoot with my family and being a family of ten; I knew it would be challenging. So I told her I wanted a family for sure and outside, because thats where I had planned on shooting.

This is the first family that I had the pleasure of shooting.. And it wasn't even really "my" shoot, but I think it turned out really well. I didn't get too many shots because I was mainly watching how Christy interacted with the family & the kids. The Murray's were the perfect "model" family. Their son, Tanner, is the same age as my sister and boy did he LOVE getting so much attention. Taylor, their daughter, took some time to warm up to us, but turned out to be a pro as well. And as for Lynn and Shannon- beautiful!
